Hot Air Balloon Festival pact signed
Thursday, January 6, 2011
CLARK FREEPORT — Officials from the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) and a representative from a tourism-oriented foundation recently signed an agreement for the staging of the Hot Air Balloon Festival on February in this Freeport.
Philip Panlilio, executive vice president at the CDC, and Captain Joy Roa, president of the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta
Foundation Inc. (PIHABF), signed an agreement at the Cafe Mesa early this week to stage the 16th Hot Air Balloon Festival in Clark.
The upcoming festival, which is expected to draw more than 1000,000 tourists, will be held on February 10 to 13 at the Philippine Air Force’s (PAF) ADAC Hangar.
Panlilio said more than 25 countries are expected to participate in the annual event.
In the previous balloon fiestas, countries such as the Philippines, United States, Hungary, Thailand, Malaysia, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Finland, Japan, England and South Korea have joined the event.
Last year, local and foreign tourists started flocking the Philippine Air Force complex as early as 4 a.m. to watch the hot air balloons.
There were a total of 22 balloons from countries such as Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany. Some of the balloons bore human faces while some were animal-shaped.
Later in the morning, tourists started either flying their own kites or taking photographs of themselves with aviation equipments in exhibits.
Noemi Garcia, manager of the CDC Tourism Promotions Office, said PIHABF will also celebrate the “Centennial Year of Airplanes in the Philippine Skies.”
Garcia said that interested parties like tour groups, schools, and other institutions could avail of discounted tickets until January 31 at her office.
