City cites lawyer-volunteers in anti-littering drive

THE Iloilo City Government recently recognized five members of the Iloilo Integrated Bar of the Philippines, an assistant city prosecutor and five media practitioners for supporting the city’s anti-littering program.
Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III, City Adminstrator Norlito Bautista and Environment and Natural Resources officer Engr. Noel Hechanova awarded them with certificates of appreciation signed by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog last July 4.
Hechanova said the lawyers, namely Daniel Dinopol, Marven Daquilanea, Ronnie Delicana and Maricar Hiballes and prosecutor Jeremy Bionat were instrumental in prosecuting violators of Republic Act 9003 and City Regulation Ordinance 149 that provide sanctions against litter bugs.
The lawyers are voluntarily assisting the City Government in implementing the environmental law on solid wastes, river cleanup and conservation and the subsequent filing of appropriate charges in court against violators.
The prosecutor was cited for his cooperation and efforts in filing the charges that eventually reached the proper court to decide.
On the other hand, media institutions were also cited for their voluntary role in the anti-littering campaign.
