Arayat folk benefit from medical mission
January 29, 2011
ARAYAT — Close to 1,000 indigent individuals availed of free medicines, medical check-up and dental services during Friday’s start of a series of medical missions sponsored by Mayor Luis Espino and the Municipal Council.
Espino said the first beneficiaries of the medical and dental mission are from Barangay La Paz Turu, which is considered one of the most far-flung villages among the 30 barangays in this municipality.

He said the local government unit (LGU) will be conducting three medical missions in three barangays every last Friday of the month.
Through the working relationship between the executive and legislative, the LGU has allotted some P3 million for the purchase of medicines to be used for the whole year, he added.
The mayor said that among the priorities of the LGU is the delivery of basic health services to its constituents, in support of the plans of Governor Lilia Pineda.
He said the Provincial Government has been very supportive to the Municipal Government in terms of medical assistance and projects, like the construction of bunk houses for landslide victims in Barangay San Juan BaƱo here.
Espino said he will also ask Pineda to allot funds for the construction of a new building at the Arayat District Hospital.
He said the district hospital has only 26 bedrooms.
Aside from the medical mission to be conducted in the 30 barangays, Espino said the LGU has also given hundreds of PhilHealth cards to indigent individuals, medical assistance and donation of medical equipment to the district hospital.
Also present during the medical mission were Councilors Jeff Luriz, Che Lumbang, Edith Kabigting, Secretary Ador Pineda, members of the 703rd Brigade of the Philippine Army, American tourist Ethelray Harris, businessmen Jun Santos, Pogi Mallari, Municipal Health Office staff, BHWs, local police and barangay officials.
