Water district’s Adopt-a-Site backed

THE Provincial Agrarian Reform Coordinating Council (Parrcom)-Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Provincial Council of Davao City joined the other 59 adopters in rehabilitating a portion of Mt. Talomo-Lipadas watershed through the Davao City Water District’s (DCWD) Adopt-a-Site project.
This agreement was formally sealed last May 26, 2011 at Felis Resort in Matina Aplaya through the signing of a memorandum of agreement by spokesperson Imelda T. Magsuci for DCWD and provincial agrarian reform officer II Ernesto B. Tan for the Parrcom-DAR.

Magsuci thanked Parrcom-DAR for its support to DCWD.
“With the rate of infrastructure development in Davao City, much water will be needed in order to ensure water supply sustainability in the future. Thus, the call to protect our water supply sources has never been more pronounced. Support from agencies like Parrcom and DAR are very much appreciated because the DCWD acknowledges the fact that it could not protect and rehabilitate all the watersheds alone,” she said.
Parrcom-DAR has adopted one hectare of land inside Mt. Talomo-Lipadas Watershed in Tungkalan and will be donating P6,000 every year for five years in order to help DCWD rehabilitate the area. Its donation will subsidize the planting of seedlings, maintenance, replanting, fertilization and administrative cost.
Since 1993, the DCWD has been employing various strategies such as networking and linkaging, information education and communication, caring for the upland partners, environmental water quality monitoring, and monitoring and evaluation in order to help protect the major water supply sources of Davao City which are Malagos, Mt. Talomo-Lipadas and Mt. Tipolog-Tamugan.
The Adopt-a-Site project is one among these strategies and the most instrumental as it makes use of sectoral support from various agencies and individuals.
The joint implementation of these methods has helped in successfully inviting 59 adopters for the rehabilitation of 530 hectares of land inside Mt. Talomo-Lipadas. (PR)
