Traders Favor FAB’s Investment Climate
MARIVELES, Bataan — Reputed businessmen and big foreign investors have lauded the “good investment climate” in the sprawling industrial complex of the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB) in just a period of three years since its creation, officials said yesterday.
Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) Chairman Deogracias Custodio said this year’s anniversary celebration of the FAB highlights the freeport’s milestone achievements.
Custodio said praise from FAB’s current investors has prompted them to further improve relations with locators, potential investors, and other stakeholders in order to make the Freeport the No. 1 provider of employment in the province.
To date, the FAB is home to more than 65 foreign and local companies which provide thousands of jobs to local and immigrating residents.
Samuel Lee, owner of Hap Chan-FAB, said investors here do not only relish tax privileges but also the concord brought by the support of 2nd District Representative Albert Garcia who, together with Governor Enrique Garcia, who pushed for FAB’s creation, and Mariveles Mayor Jesse Concepcion.
Privileges here include the Income Tax Holiday (ITH) from four to eight years; five percent tax in lieu of local and national taxes after the ITH period; duty free importation of capital equipment, raw materials, consumer goods and personal items; exemption from wharfage dues, export taxes, imposts and fees; domestic sales allowance of up to 30 percent of total sales; and special visas for investors.
