Trader seeks P10M in slander case vs nurse
January 28, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANO–A trader filed on Tuesday a P10M criminal complaint for slander against a nurse from Angeles City who he claims has tainted his good honor and reputation as a respected businessman.
Complainant Paternus “Ringo” H. Limjoco of Barangay San Agustin here filed the complaint before the Office of the City Prosecutor the other day against Julius Brian D. Turla, a male nurse from Barangay Salapungan in Angeles City.
In his complaint, Limjoco said he has “suffered sleepless nights, wounded feelings, moral and social embarrassment which Turla should compensate by way of damages, which is the natural, proximate and necessary result of the malicious publication in the amount of P10 million.”
Earlier, an article was published in this paper identifying Turla as having allegedly “swindled” a woman from Angeles City, who requested anonymity. She was apparently a friend of Limjoco.
Turla then went to the Sun.Star office and identified Limjoco as the one who branded him a swindler.
Limjoco, in his complaint, said Turla’s “act in going to the office and telling those present therein does not show good intention and justifiable motive, neither is it privileged nor a fair and true report made in good faith.”
He further stated in his complaint that the ill-effects of the publication based on Turla’s allegations were evident in the negative responses from those who read the article, saying his baseless allegations are shameful, heinous and unequivocally malicious–which Limjoco claimed as “entirely false, malicious, offensive and derogatory to (my) good name, character and reputation tending to besmirch and destroy my honor, character and reputation, all to my damage and prejudice.”
According to him, the said publication raised doubts in the minds of all those who read the article as to the propriety and correctness of his dealings. (Jovi T. de Leon)
