Trader marks birthday in hometown

APALIT — Businessman Manny V. Pangilinan celebrated his 65th birthday Thursday here, his native town, with officials of Pampanga.
Governor Lilia Pineda and Apalit Mayor Oscar Tetangco Jr. led townsfolk in joining Pangilinan in a thanksgiving mass at 7 a.m. He joined them later for breakfast.
Pangilinan afterward inspected his various corporate social responsibility projects here. He also gave other projects in Pampanga, usually launched during his birthday.
Pineda said she asked Pangilinan to assist the province in dealing with the flood problem affecting businesses.
Pineda also asked Pangilinan to study and invest in Central Luzon a waste-to-energy project technology used in Germany. Pangilinan controls majority of the stocks of the Manila Electric Company.
Tetangco, for his part, said, “No word is enough to express our gratitude to MVP (Pangilinan)” for his contributions to Pampanga and the Philippine economy.
Pangilinan is the chairman of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. and Smarts Communications Inc.
His group, Manila North Tollways Corp., is now in control both of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway and North Luzon Expressway.
