Town supports greening project
– Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab reaffirmed the town’s commitment to support the national greening program of the Environment department by planting 8,000 trees along the riverbanks here.Cayabyab told Sun.Star Pampanga that the local government unit is very supportive of the National Greening Program, which was created through Executive Order 26. Cayabyab said her administration, together with the municipal councils and chairpersons of the 44 villages, has committed to plant some 8,000 trees along the Porac-Gumain River channel passing the Sta. Cruz, Sta. Teresa and Sta. Rita villages.
Meanwhile, Engr. Rommel Santiago of the Environment department in Pampanga, said the department is tasked by the National Government to coordinate with the Provincial Government and the local government unit in planting some 311,000 trees in some 623 hectares of land in Pampanga.
Santiago said the trees will be planted in urban, protected and reforestation areas in the province by using community-based farming management methods under the National Greening Program.
In a related development, the Capitol and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office have also launched a massive tree planting activity in all the towns in the province. (Chris Navarro)
