Town’s cityhood to bring good governance

MABALACAT — Mayor Marino Morales said the upcoming transformation of his town into a city will bring “good governance,” which he defined as a government that is responsive to the needs of the public.
Aside from good governance, Morales said cityhood will also help the local government unit become more efficient and effective in the delivery of social services to Mabalaceños since its resources will grow bigger.
Mabalacat is to be elevated into a city by the second quarter of 2011.
After several consultative meetings, the town’s Municipal Council also approved a change of the town’s name once it becomes a city into “Mabalacat Clark City.”
Having Clark in the name would create “global impact” and easy name recall for Mabalacat, added Morales.
According to Morales, the move would also keep the town responsive to the call for global competitiveness in terms of trade, skills enhancement, investments, and other vital economic factors.
“Mabalacat is home to the Clark Freeport which, aside from being known as a former US military airbase, was also just recently acknowledged as one of the leading investment destinations in the globe,” Morale added.
The upcoming city is also expected to complete the “economic triangle of Pampanga” which will include the cities of San Fernando and Angeles.
“Our cityhood will be a big help to the development and growth of Pampanga,” Morales said.
The town has already complied with the legal requisites for cityhood like income, population, and land area. (Charlene Cayabyab)
