Tax bureau intensifies mapping campaigns

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) here on Tuesday started an intensified tax mapping campaign to raise local tax revenue and apprehend tax evaders.
BIR regional director Romulo Aguila Jr., in an interview during the tax mapping campaign in downtown Angeles City, said that the move aims to apprehend violations of failure of to register the business with the BIR; failure to issue duly registered receipts or invoices; use of unregistered receipts or invoices; and unauthorized cash register point-of-sale machines.
“This move is part of this year’s campaign to improve tax collection and create awareness among the consuming public of their rights as customers. The public plays a vital role in the proper collection of taxes by always demanding their receipts whenever they make purchases,” Aguila said.
Aguila said the Tax Compliance Verification Drive, otherwise known as tax mapping, ensures the correct payment of taxes and to combat tax evasion by some establishments.
“The tax mapping drive also creates a culture of discipline since establishments that are always reminded of their responsibility would always want their neighboring establishments to also follow the rules,” Aguila said.
Aguila said the current tax mapping of the BIR here is expected to weed-out tax evaders and raise tax collection by 10 percent. He added that the tax mapping will also give the BIR the needed data to evaluate the general business situation the region.
The data, Aguila said, may be used in making vital decisions of zonal valuation, tax increases as well as incentives for business establishments and regular tax payers.
