Sweepstakes office lauds Suncove for housing project

BACOLOR — An executive of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) lauded Suncove Corporation — the recognized and authorized Small Town Lottery operator in Pampanga — for its employees’ housing project.
Officials of Suncove turned over Thursday the first two moderately sized houses — one in Barangay Solib in Floridablanca and another in Cabambangan, Bacolor — to employee-recipients of the STL firm in simple rites.
Some 162 units will be built by Suncove for its hundreds of collectors and supervisors.
Branding it as one of the best corporate social responsibility programs among its STL operators nationwide, PCSO General Manager Jose Ferdinand Rojas said: “Isa ito sa mga pinakamagandang CSR program na nakita namin.”
He told Sun.Star Pampanga: “Itong project na ito ng Suncove ay napakaganda. Ito ay para sa kanilang mga empleyado at umpisa lamang daw ito ng mga ibang proyekto na kanilang ibibigay sa mga empleyado.”
Floridablanca Mayor Eduardo Guerrero also commended Suncove for its housing project, where the first recipient in the town is reportedly the oldest employee of the provincial operator.
“In behalf of the Municipal Government of Floridablanca, we would like to commend and thank Suncove for its social responsibility program which will surely help the poor and its employees,” he said.
The same sentiments were echoed by Bacolor Vice Mayor Anianas Canlas Jr.: “Sana ipagpatuloy ito ng Suncove at makapagbigay pa sila ng iba ng projects like scholarships and livelihood assistance sa kanilang mga empleyado dahil ito ay napakalaking bagay para sa amin.”
With the new implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the STL – now PCSO Loterya ng Bayan or PLB, Rojas said lottery operations personnel have become “legitimate employees.”
“Mandated under the new guidelines is that all operators nationwide will have to give Pag-Ibig, SSS and PhilHealth benefits to their employees. In turn, the employees’ income will be taxable, thus allowing them to become legitimate employees. At least, katulad nila, kung sila ay nagbabayad na ng mga taxes, puwede na silang mag-loan sa mga bangko kasi meron silang ipapakitang income nila at mag-apply ng credit cards,” he revealed.
Rojas said it is of utmost importance for PCSO and Suncove that government gets its share from lottery operations through taxes. He added the new IRR of PLB was released and approved two days ago.
The IRR had undergone “refinements” after consultations with the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the Philippine National Police and STL permit holders, he said, with changes in mechanics effected.
