State university campus in Porac ‘in the works’

PORAC — The establishment of a satellite campus of Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU) here is in progress, two top local officials said.
Mayor Condralito Dela Cruz and Vice Mayor Dexter David bared this during the turnover of a new school building from Sweet Crystals Integrated Sugar Mill Corporation Monday for students of Planas High School.
They said the site, which is adjacent to the Model Community in Barangay Tokwing, has been inspected by DHVTSU officials and they have made initial developments in the area.
If realized, the officials said, the planned satellite campus-cum-community college would be the third of its kind after the City of San Fernando’s and Mabalacat’s community colleges.
“We are moving for measures that will improve the state of education in Porac. With the help of our partners like Sweet Crystals and DHVTSU, we can move ahead,” the officials told Sun.Star Pampanga.
In a separate interview, DHVTSU president Enrique Baking said there have been a lot of requests for satellite campuses like in Arayat and Porac.
“Except for the memorandum of agreement which we signed with Governor Lilia Pineda for a campus in Lubao, we are still processing applications and waiting for instructions from the municipality of Porac. It will be a welcome move and a great relief if ever we will be in Porac,” said Baking.
