Specific court for Pampanga drug cases sought

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Fourth district Board Member Nestor Tolentino filed Wednesday a resolution urging the Supreme Court to assign a specific criminal court to handle all drug-related cases in Pampanga.
During his privilege speech, Tolentino said the move has been motivated by the fact that there are many drug-related cases that are still pending and left unresolved within courts in Pampanga.
Tolentino said his attention to the current problem was a result of a recent meeting with Governor Lilia Pineda and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency officials on the situation of drug-related cases in the province.
“The problem is the fact that with the great number of cases being filed from day-to-day, our detention facilities are getting clogged. What is worse is that many of these drug-related cases are left pending in court due to many other cases that our courts would need to attend to,” Tolentino said.
The resolutions aim to create a specific court that would prioritize drug-related cases. The court would then be under the jurisdiction of the Executive Judge of the 3rd Judicial Region here, according to Tolentino.
The move is expected to expedite the litigation and other court processes of the inmates involved in drug-related cases and avoid the clogging of detention centers in Pampanga.
Tolentino said this move will also ensure that speedy justice will be given to all drug-related cases here.
He said every suspect in drug-related cases are entitled to fair and proper trial without having to wait long weeks inside detention facilities.
The copies of the resolution will be forwarded to the Supreme Court and the Third Judicial Region here.
