SMB brings ‘Perry the Musicale’ to Manila

STA. RITA — San Miguel Brewery will bring to Metro Manila audiences for the final run of the local musicale “Perry” on May 12 at the Star Theater, Star City, CCP Complex in Pasay City.
“Perry” is a local theater production conceptualized by the theater and arts group Teatry Ima at Arti. The group is the first of its kind in Pampanga and arguably in the Philippines, members of which are theater neophytes.
MaArti, as these mix of career women, entrepreneurs, artists and homemakers are known, joyfully celebrate their 50-and-above age with enthusiasm for theater and the arts.
The group is under the direction of creative director Andy Alviz. The conceptualization of MaArti gave birth to “IMA the Musicale”, which was successfully staged in 2008 and the following year, “Beauty Parlor”, another original Kapampangan modern zarzuela, wowed its audiences.
Its third and latest musical “Perry” is an inspiring vocation campaign of the Mother of Good Counsel Seminary. Aside from the MaArti members, “Perry” has 12 seminarians and two priests in the cast.
The show has 19 original Kapampangan songs and chronicles the life of an ordinary lad, who, despite the nagging challenges and obstacles, still answers the call of God to become a seminarian.
“Perry” has received raving reviews from local and even international audiences.
“The Musical provided a brief synopsis of typical Filipino values, which also has an international flair. Its song and dance portions are the best and truest of a kind, depicting the Filipino way of life in a notorious, whimsical, and hilarious style. One cannot escape to be totally entertained! I give my 5-star to the play’s director and composer, scriptwriter and the whole cast for a well-thought, well-organized musical! Bravo!” said Soledad Malig of Bothell Washington in a post on her webpage.
Alviz, for his part, said that the production aims to help the local vacation program of the archdiocese.
“The production is in cooperation with the Archdiocese of San Fernando. The musical serves as our contribution in drawing attention to the priestly vocation and in promoting awareness among the Catholic laity to help their local seminary and its programs,” Alviz said.
