SM holds seminar on SSS, PhilHealth benefits for seniors

CLARK FREEPORT — SM City Clark hosted a series of seminars Monday on senior citizen benefits from the Social Security System (SSS) and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) at the Event Center here.
The senior citizen’s event dubbed “Araw ng Kaalaman” featured talks from SSS Angeles head Laura Mariano and Medical Head Dr. Julieta Quendangan and Annabelle Imana. The speakers shared information to the senior citizens regarding Phil Health & SSS benefits.
SM City Clark invited the Senior Citizens of Dau, Mabalacat headed by Kagawad Precy Evangelista. The Seminar included a question and answer portion. Also, the seniors showcased their singing talents and dancing skills after the program.
These other the provisions of Sections 5 (h)(1) and 5 (h)(2) of Republic Act 9994 otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 were also raised by the seniors.
Section 5 (h)(l) provides that “Indigent senior citizens shall be entitled to a monthly stipend amounting to P500 to augment the daily subsistence and other medical needs of senior citizens.
However, this is subject to review by Congress in consultation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
On the other hand, Section 5 (h) (2) provides that “All indigent senior citizens shall be covered by the National Health Insurance program of PhilHealth.”
The local government units where the indigent senior citizens reside shall allocate the necessary funds to ensure the enrollment of their indigent senior citizens, in accordance with pertinent laws and regulations.
The event aims to also give senior citizens with enough information on their rights and privileges when availing of government and other services.
“This is part of the corporate social responsibility program of SM City Clark and we hope to make such events as part of our routine activities for the year,” SM City Clark public relations officer Venus Manalang said.
