San Luis LGU, teachers thank guv, PB for school
SAN LUIS – The local government unit here as well as teachers expressed gratitude to Gov. Lilia Pineda, Vice Gov. Yeng Guiao and the Provincial Board for their support in realizing their dream – a high school in this town.

Yeng Guiao at Sanggunian Panlalawigan Members king Patuloy a Suporta King Balen San Luis Lalu na King Pangatatag Ning San Luis High School,” reads a streamer put up the Mayor Venancio “Asyong” Macapagal, Sanggunian Bayan members and faculty of the San Luis High School during Monday’s flag raising ceremony.
Macapagal told Sun.Star Pampanga that the LGU is very grateful for the assistance extended by Gov. Pineda, Vice Gov. Guiao and the Board Members for allotting P 3.2 million for the purchase of a lot where the San Luis National High School now stands.
He said the LGU has also come up with P3 million as counterpart, as the cost of the land is P 6.2 million.
The mayor added that aside from the funds, Gov. Pineda also promised to build a two-storey, eight-classroom school building and the upgrading of the school grounds.
“Noong pumunta si Nanay Gov. dito ilang buwan na ang nakaraan ay pinangako na niya ang pagpapagawa ng school building at pagtambak sa school grounds para hindi na bahain ang eskwelahan, sapagkat karamihan sa mga nag-aaral dito ay nangagaling pa sa walong barangays ng bayan namin,” Macapagal said.
He added that despite being a 3rd-class municipality, the LGU made it a priority to convert the once-private school into a public school to help hundreds of students who come from indigent families in barangays Poblacion, Sto. Tomas, Sta. Lucia, Sta. Rosario, Sta. Monica, San Agustin and Sta. Rita.
Macapagal added with the cooperation and harmonious relationship between him and Vice Mayor Leonardo Salas, Sanggunian Bayan members Cesar Lagman, Mario Mangalus, Jerry Sagum, Arcadio Manalastas, Florentino Ocampo, Esmeralda Suba, Rolando Batu and Liga ng mga Barangay President Edilberto Mangulabnan and Sanggunian Kabataan, many worthy projects and programs have been realized.
He also thanked officials of DepEd for assisting the SLHS.
Meanwhile, SLHS principal Domingo Reyes lauded Pineda and Macapagal for their efforts in assisting the teachers, saying that out of the 13 teaching staff, eight of them have been getting their salaries from the provincial government and the LGU.
Reyes said that at present they have 506 students this school year but they expect the number to double and even reach 1,000 by next year.
He said that the conversion of the SLHS from private to public has been a great help to parents who used to pay P8,000 every enrollment but now only a P 1,100 donation is being collected.
By the time the said school is fully operational and subsidized by the government, the tuition fee will be free.(Chris Navarro)
