RP ENERGY’S BRIGADA ESKWELA BENEFITS 37 SCHOOLS
Redondo Peninsula Energy,Inc. (RP energy) launched its Brigada Eskwela Caravan at the Matain Elementary School in Subic, Zambales to provide repairs and clean-ups in 33 elementary and high schools in Subic.
RP Energy’s Brigada Eskwela Caravan is in Partnership with the Subic Municipal Government and the Department of Educaton (DepEd) Subic District.
‘We are thankful for RP Energy’s valuable support to DepEd’s Brgada Eskwela program. Their contributions will definitely go a long way towards creating a better learning environment for the schoolchildren of Subic,” said Mayor Jay Khonghun of Subic, who, together with the Municipal Council, DepEd and RP Energy officials, spearheaded the clean-up and painting of the classrooms.
The caravan is in line with DepEd’s Brigada Eskwela program, a nationwide voluntary effort of teachers, parents, students, community members, and organizations to do repairs and clean-ups on schools in preparation for the start of the school year.
Building and cleaning materials are mostly donated by local corporations and businesses.
“We are pleased to support the Brigada Eskwela program because it promotes the spirit of volunteerism and uplifts the quality of education by making schools more conducive to learning,” said Grant Smith, RP Energy project manager.
During the week-long event, more than 120 volunteers from RP Energy’s host communities will repair and clean up elementary school and annex buildings in Agusuhin, Aningway-Sacatihan, Batiawan (1 and 2), Cabitaugan, Calapacuan, Calapandayan, Cawag, Cawag Resettlement, Ilwas, Kinabuksan, Manggahan, Mapanao, Matain, Nagyantok, Naugsol, Pamatawan, San Isidro, Sto. Tomas, Subic Central and Tibag.
RP Energy’s Brigada Eswela Caravan will also repair and clean up the JF Sped Center, Subic National High School, Cawag Resettlement High School, Cawag High School Annex, Nagyantok High School, Sto. Tomas High School, San Isidro High School, Ilwas High School and Aningway- Sacatihan Annex High School. RP Energy will also provide plywood, floor tiles, paints and other building and cleaning materials to the Dirita-Baloguen Elementary School in Iba, Zambales; Sergia Soriano Integrated School in Kalaklan, Olongapo; Cabatuagan Elementary School in Cawag, Subic, Subic and Matain Elamentary School during the Brigada Eskwela Caravan.
According to DepEd Subic District Supervisor Pamela Gatdula, “RP Energy’s continued support for the DepEds program is an example of private-public partnerships working towards improving the communities and safeguarding the future of the youth.”
To further improve education in Subic, RP Energy has also launched Galing Eskwela (G-Skwela), a library hub project that will provide books and educational toys to students and teaching aids to teachers.
G-Skwela will also refurbish 4 school libraries in Zambales, Subic, Olongapo and Cawag, provide a librarian kit for a teacher-librarian and offer training to teachers on the proper use of “wikahon” a tool to gauge the Filipino reading comprehension of students.
RP Energy is a consortium composed of Manila Electric Company (Meralco) Power Generation Corporation, Aboitiz Power Corporation and Taiwan Cogeneration International Corporation.
It is the developer of an environmental friendly and state-of-the-art 600-megawatt coal-fired power plant at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone. The plant is expected to augment the power supply in the Luzon grid when it starts commercial operations in 2015.
