Regional tax bureau collects P2.7B

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Central Luzon has posted a total of P2.7 billion in revenue tax collection, overcoming its target for the first quarter of 2011.
The revenue office disclosed that its target collection for January to March 2011, pegged at P2,701,002,000, has been met with an excess of P24,985,511.88. The excess collection represents about 93 percent overrun.
The regional tax bureau was also able to beat its actual revenue collection recorded in the same period of 2010 which was P2,362,893,748.19. The agency’s collection for the first three months has increased by P363,147,763.69, or 15.37 percent higher compared to last year’s first quarter collection.
Romulo Aguila Jr., BIR Central Luzon chief, said their accomplishment was a result of the office’s aggressive tax information and awareness campaign initiated.
Aguila expressed optimism that the BIR’s overall target collection of P13 billion for 2011 will be met.
However, he admitted that the recent delisting of big taxpayers in the region will somehow affect the collection in the long run.
Aguila advised taxpayers to pay their dues on time, citing that these taxes are given back to the public in the form of social and health services and infrastructure projects vital to economic development.
Taxpayers are also warned to keep away from “fixers” to avoid unnecessary inconveniences.
