Rainy Sona for Aquino: weather bureau

THE weather may refuse to cooperate with President Benigno Aquino III as rainshowers and thunderstorms are expected during his State of the Nation Address (Sona) at the House of Representatives in Quezon City on Monday.
Graciano Yumul, supervising undersecretary of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said their forecast model showed that rains will occur starting Monday afternoon.
President Aquino is set to deliver his Sona at 4 p.m. on that day as militants are seen to flood the streets leading to the venue.
“However, the rains won’t be continuous. We advise everyone to bring umbrellas or any rain gear for that matter,” Yumul told Sun.Star.
This announcement is good until July 29, Yumul said, due to two incoming tropical cyclones.
To be codenamed “Juaning”, the weather disturbance might develop into a tropical depression by Monday afternoon and might cross Batanes by Wednesday.
Weather website Typhoon 2000 tracked the potential cyclone at 690 kilometers east southeast of Borongan City, Samar as of 11 a.m. Saturday.
Another brewing storm to be called “Kabayan”, meanwhile, will enter Philippine waters on Friday.
“It will be a wet week (July 25-29). Please monitor for changes,” he said.
Pagasa also gave a rainy forecast for President Aquino’s first Sona in July 26 last year but it failed to materialize as Manila only experienced partly cloudy skies. (Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
