Rains can’t stop Angeles ‘Tigtigan, Terakan’
ANGELES CITY–The yearly Tigtigan Terakan Keng Dalan (TTKD) is expected to push through Friday despite threats of rain brought by typhoon “Ofel.”
TTKD, Central Luzon’s biggest and most anticipated two-day annual street party, is set to welcome visitors from all over the country celebrating the two decades of Angeleños’ “triumph over tragedy.”
Early Thursday, Angeles City Chief of Staff Alexander Cauguiran said some text messages saying that the TTKD was cancelled by Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan due to rains were circulated.
“There is no truth to this rumor. As of this time, organizers are thick of preparations for the two-day TTKD events,” Cauguiran said.
“Tuloy na tuloy po ang 20th anniversary ng TTKD,” he added.
Rising from ashes
Mayor Pamintuan reiterated the essence of TTKD.
“More than a night of food, dance, and music, TTKD is a celebration that takes pride of the indomitable spirit of each Angeleño to rise from the destruction wrought by Mount Pinatubo,” said Pamintuan, who is also the chairman for this year’s Fiestang Kuliat committee.
The TTKD 2012 will be held on October 26 and 27 along the stretch of the McArthur Highway at the city’s finest Balibago business district.
More than a hundred thousand party-lovers and entertainment-seekers are expected to troop the world-class night-long festivity.
“Last year was a breakthrough because we have recorded almost 60,000 and we are expecting more this year,” said Pamintuan.
Zones are being set for major sponsors like San Miguel Brewery and Ginebra San Miguel for their night entertainment line-ups. Globe Telecoms, Smart Communications, and Sun Cellular also have their own booths where one can enjoy games and promos.
Celebrities, comedians, local bands like Gary and the Saint St., Rocksteddy, General Luna Band, Itchyworms and other surprise appearances are also expected on the two-day anniversary celebration.
Tickets for the TTKD are priced at P100 and are available at the booths situated at the gates near Puregold, Marlim Mansions and Sumpan.
The city will also implement a traffic re-routing scheme (posted on TTKD’s Facebook Page for reference) to make way for the festival.
McArthur Highway, including the Mon Tang Avenue (Service Road), from Flores St. (Sumpan/7-11) to Rivera Lim St. (Puregold/BPI), will be closed to all vehicles starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2012.
Regular traffic scheme will resume on Sunday, October 28 at 6 a.m.
“Expect nights of fun and amusement,” Pamintuan said as he invites the nation to visit the Tigtigan Terakan King Dalan 2012.
“TTKD is our way of remembering our early and latest victories–that we, Angeleños, have stood firm for what is right and just against distractions that brought nothing but confusion,” the mayor added.
