Province set to ‘sample’ non-compliant local governments
May 25, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Provincial Board (PB) will start “sampling” local government units (LGUs) that do not comply with requirements on tax remittances and submission of mandated budgets for this year.
First district Board Member Crisostomo Garbo, chair of the PB’s committee on appropriations, said that Capitol will soon start the auction and then penalize delinquent taxpayers.
“It could be a ground for technical malversation,” he said.
He reminded finance committee heads to make the necessary appropriations, like the five percent allocation for solid waste management, until middle of this year only.
“You can submit your supplemental budgets for other requirements until mid year or you will be compelled through a proper resolution to do so. Hanggang June lang kung hindi magkakahirapan na and you will be sanctioned accordingly,” said Garbo.
Garbo, however, expressed appreciation for those remitting real property taxes on time and government hospitals under economic enterprise that are complying with the law.
He told Sun.Star Pampanga: “Minimal na lang naman iyung non-compliant unlike before na more than 50 percent of tax payers are remitting their shares to Capitol. For this year, we are targeting at least 80 to 90 percent compliance. Right now, many are complying and remitting their shares to the province. But still we would have to go after those who still are not complying.”
Garbo added the objective of the auction is to double the P40 million tax collections of Capitol last year.
