Porci to host first-ever rainforest track

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Pampanga Off-Roaders Club Inc. (Porci), in cooperation with the International Off-road Challenge of Malaysia and SM City Pampanga, will be host Saturday the first-ever rainforest challenge in Central Luzon.
Porci president John Sambo said the event, dubbed as “SM City Pampanga 4×4 Off-road Challenge,” features a more challenging track designed by Dennis Javier of the Tanay Land Rover Team and Rainforest Challenge representative Daniel Liew.
The off-road event will start at 9 a.m. at the SM City Pampanga Parking C area. Fans and off-road enthusiasts are expected to attend the event.
Sambo said 30 off-road enthusiasts from Porci, Angeles City Off-roaders, as well as representatives from Bicol, Isabela, Nueva Ecija, Rizal, Isabela, Cavite and Benguet provinces, and Metro Manila will participate in the event.
“This new event features a more challenging track that will bring the best among off-road enthusiasts,” Sambo said, adding it is also aimed at popularizing off-road driving as sport and tourism attraction in the province and Central Luzon.
Liew said the Rainforest Challenge (RFC) — established and created in 1997 in Malaysia — is now the world’s most internationally represented 4×4 off-road event, with participants and media from over 30 countries joining the adventure every year.
“We want to bring into the Philippines the RFC standard and popularize this kind of track among off-road enthusiasts here,” he said, adding the track is among the most challenging in the world.
Sambo said the event is open and free for the public, and around P100,000 worth of prizes are at stake.
