Porac officials, police launch volunteer system vs crime

PORAC — Officials led by Mayor Condralito Dela Cruz, Vice Mayor Dexter David and Porac Police chief Neil Oligario Miro launched the Police Volunteer Program here to enlist the help of community volunteers against crime.
Miro said the program will provide volunteers with identification cards and contact details of their nearest police stations and detachments.
The program aims to bring both police and civilian volunteers together in anti-criminality programs of the government.
“We would like to have the police and the people together as partners in keeping peace and order in the community,” Mayor Dela Cruz said.
The mayor added that the move will also bring the police closer to the community and erase the bad perception of people on the police force.
He added that an effective network of police and civilian volunteers will enable the municipal government to implement effectively its anti-criminality and drugs campaign.
Vice Mayor Dexter David said the program will discourage lawless elements from operating in the town.
He said the program will utilize modern communications like texting and the internet in the reporting of crime incidences.
The employees of the Municipal Government here were the first to be listed in the program and were provided identification cards and contact details, according to David.
“A community that is vigilant is the first defense against criminality. This program will also enable us to mobilize volunteers during disasters,” David said.
