Police issue warning on false reports about cults

MABALACAT — Police officials here warned the people on Monday about false reports on cults who are allegedly into manslaughter or massacre.
Superintendent Rolly Mendoza, town police chief, said there are no confirmed reports about activities of cults here and in other places.
Over the past few days, the “false reports” spread through short message service (SMS) or text in cellular phones.
The text message warned people not to open their doors to strangers and to report suspicious-looking persons to the local police.
“Ekayu mamuklat pasbul agad patye atin kakatuk, adyang babae ya nung eye kilala. Report me agad pulis. Atyu la Tarlac and Pampanga deng kultu, mag-massacre la anggiang ninu. Napun yapa alert, advise yu nala mu pu reng others,” the text message read.
A local radio station in Pangasinan allegedly reported an incident where members of a cult invaded a village and killed several people.
“Mebalita ne pu yan keng Balitang Aminanan Channel 10. Tutu ya pu ini,” the message sent to Sun.Star added.
But Mendoza described the report as a hoax, saying “Nung tutu yan, edi sana mibalita na kareng broad sheets ampo keng TV (television news).”
Mayor Marino Morales declined to issue any comment regarding the report. (Reynaldo G. Navales)
