Police chief, officers relieved after shootout

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The police chief of Laoac and three other officers were relieved of their positions owing to their involvement in a shootout that left a father and a son dead.
Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) Director Franklin Jesus Bucayu said Pangasinan Police Provincial Director Rosueto Ricaforte has relieved Police Chief Lodovico Ellazar, including PO3 Billy Joe Collado, PO2 Jomar Camat, and PO3 Erwin Lopez, who is currently recuperating at the hospital after being shot.

Designated as officer-in-charge was Police Inspector Asterio Dismaya, the current deputy chief of police.
The police force will be augmented by a team from the Provincial Public Safety Company of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO).
All four police officers responded to a complaint last Sunday about alleged indiscriminate firing in Barangay Lebueg, Laoac town.
Submitted by a concerned citizen, the complaint said that 62-year-old Rodrigo C. Eleazar Sr. and his son 34-year-old son Gener, both of Barangay Lebeg, were firing their guns, prompting the team to look into the report.
Accompanied by barangay officials, the four officers asked the Geners about the complaint and a shootout between the parties allegedly took place later.
Besides Lopez, also wounded was Lebeg barangay captain Edgar Ellazar (brother of chief-of-police Ellazar).
The matter is being investigated by Police Chief Inspector Modesto Carrera, who has been assigned as the new chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Team-Pangasinan as head of the Special Investigation Task Group Eleazar.
Carrera said the team is conducting in-depth investigation on the shooting incident, which left two dead.
He said he could not give an update yet as the family of the fatalities have yet to give their statements. (Liway C. Manantan-Manantan/Sunnex)
