Police: Angeles City more peaceful in 2012
ANGELES CITY–This city was relatively peaceful and manageable in 2012 as compared to 2011, according to a report presented by the Angeles City Police Office (ACPO) during the Peace and Order Council (POC) meeting held Wednesday at the Mayor’s Office.
Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, POC chairman, commended the local police for successfully maintaining peace and order in the city.
He lauded ACPO for the arrest of criminal elements who are also connected to other cases that hounded the city for the past years.
With these unprecedented efforts, Pamintuan vowed that the city government will continue supporting the local police in all its programs and campaigns on crime prevention.
“Well-planned crime prevention strategies not only prevent crime and victimization, but also promote community safety and contribute to sustainable development,” Pamintuan said.
“One of the responsibilities of my administration is to ensure the security of my constituents; this way, business and investments will continue to thrive in our beloved city,” Pamintuan added.
The mayor said he believes that peace and order can be maintained in the entire city if there is cooperation between all local departments and even among barangay officials.
Senior Superintendent Jun Hidalgo, ACPO director, said that strict implementation of anti-crime laws and continuous police patrols in the city are the reason behind the city’s positive peace and order rating.
He also mentioned the support of the local administration in helping them maintain orderliness in the city which led them to numerous raids and arrests of different criminal elements.
Also during the council meeting, ACPO laid down their plans for this year.
The city police office will conduct banks and schools visitation, strengthen police information, education and communication (IEC) program to tri-media, participate in different simulation exercises and intensify local police operations.
Hidalgo also reported the increase in number of police personnel in all police stations in the city.
Meanwhile, the Angeles City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ACADAC) gave positive reports as to the anti-drug campaign situation in the city.
According to ACADAC head Annaliza Suller, the council has received positive feedbacks for voluntary drug testing in different barangays.
She acknowledged the assistance of different local organizations in helping them make Angeles City, a “drug-free city”.
The POC also discussed the situation of Aetas roaming around the city begging for alms as well as the unusual presence of rugby boys in different business establishments.
The peace and order council meeting was attended by representatives of the different local government offices, law enforcement agencies, the prosecution services and similar institutions of government to assist the city mayor in the proper enforcement of the laws and the administration of justice.
The City Peace and Order Council was reorganized last August 6, 2010 by Pamintuan through Executive Order No. 15, S. 2010. It has evolved to embrace a paradigm shift in peace building and has become proactive in pursuing development initiatives in the city. ●Charlene A. Cayabyab
