Pineda tells Kapampangans: Beware of illegal recruiters
CLARK FREEPORT – Governor Lilia G. Pineda has warned Kapampangans against illegal recruiters especially those who are applying for job abroad.
The governor issued the warning during the orientation seminar about the precautions in hunting jobs abroad which was participated by different Barangay Public Employment Office (PESO) held at Fontana Convention Center here.
The governor, who is deeply concerned on the fate of Kapampangan Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) especially those who fell victims to illegal recruiters, hosted the seminar in order to equip the PESO about the modus operandi of the illegal recruiters.
“We don’t want another Joselito Zapanta who ended up in jail. We are hosting this seminar in order to protect the Kapampangans on the modus operandi of the illegal recruiters,” Pineda said in an interview.
Representatives from different government agencies including Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Overseas Workers and Welfare Administration(OWWA), Department of Justice and National Bureau of Investigation and Department of Social Welfare and Development, were invited as speakers during the Barangay PESO seminar.
Pineda said the participants from the barangay will also brief their residents in the community about the do’s and don’ts in applying for jobs abroad particularly in dealing with recruiters.
“Gusto natin na malaman ng ating mga Cabalen ang mga dapat gawin kung papaano ang proseso sakaling magka-problema ang kanilang mga mahal sa buhay sa abroad,” she added.
Barangay PESO representatives also brought with them wives and husbands of OFW’s for them to be educated on various modus operandi and scam carried out by illegal recruiters.
It could be noted that Zapanta, a native from Mexico town, was sentenced to death through decapitation in Saudi Arabia after allegedly killing his Sudanese landlord.
The governor along with the Pampanga Mayor’s League led the fund raising for Zapanta’s blood money amounting to P44 million in exchange for his liberty.
Four-months was given as an extension to raise the said money.
Earlier, the Pampanga Association of Capitol Employees (PACE) had offered P350,000 donation to the two children of Zapanta. The money will be used for the kids education.
The Pampanga Mayors’ League has pledged P2 million, while each town mayor committed to give P100,000. ●–Marna Dagumboy-del Rosario
