Pinatubo timeline unveiled

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Governor Lilia Pineda Monday led the unveiling of the Pinatubo timeline done by Most Outstanding Kapampangan awardee for arts Norman Tiotuico.
The unveiling of the sculpture, which coincided with the blessing of the refurbished Benigno Aquino Jr. Hall, is part of the weeklong commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Mt. Pinatubo’s eruption.
With Governor Pineda were Mayors Oscar Rodriguez of the City of San Fernando, Marino Morales of Mabalacat, Jun Tetangco of Apalit, Lito Naguit of Sto. Tomas, Annette Balgan of Macabebe, Condralito Dela Cruz of Porac, Romulo Pecson of Magalang and Peter Flores of Masantol.
“Ang importansiya nito ay ang biyaya ng Pinatubo na ating naging source of income. Ito iyung highlight. Nagkaroon nga ng disaster pero iyung ibinuga niya ay naging biyaya ng Kapampangan. Grabe an gating biyaya from the crystal sand at ang patuloy nating progreso (What is important is the gift from Pinatubo which has become our source of income. It is the highlight. There was a disaster but what has been spewed has become a gift for the Kapampangan. The crystal sand is a great gift and our continued progress),” she said.
Governor Pineda added that the timeline will remind the youth of Mt. Pinatubo’s eruption 20 years ago, which was really never experienced by the new generation.
“Hindi nila alam kung ano ang Pinatubo. Itong timeline ay paalala sa kanila kung ano ang kasaysayan at ngayon ay ito ang ating biyaya na nakalahad sa timeline,” she told Sun.Star Pampanga.
She said the renovation of the Benigno Aquino Jr. Hall will save Capitol expenses as seminars and functions would now be held there and not anywhere else.
“Ito ay para hindi na tayo gumastos sa venue.” The refurbishing of the hall was done by the General Services Office led by Royce Pring.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez lauded Capitol for the renovation of the hall, which he said was truly fitting in honor of the martyred senator.
“Maganda and fitting for a martyr,” he said.
Rodriguez also said that the Mt. Pinatubo Memorial activities of the Provincial Government are meaningful and are truly one in essence with the commemoration of the volcano’s eruption, which he stressed, gave the Kapampangans that moment to “turn tragedies into opportunities.”
