Peso starts provincial mapping of manpower skills

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The provincial Public Employment Service Office (Peso) is now conducting a provincial wide mapping of manpower skills in a bid to better address the needs of the labor sector in Pampanga.
Luningning Vergara, Pampanga Peso manager, said the move is in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment. The survey aims to create an actual overview of the different skilled labor available in the province.
Vergara said that currently, there is no existing data on the kinds of skills possessed by the Pampanga labor force.
“This mapping will give us a more accurate view of the skills that our labor force has in order to address them with additional training as well as to create programs for the labor sector in certain industries, particularly the ones that are in demand both here and abroad,” Vergara said.
Vergara said the mapping is being supported by Governor Lilia Pineda who has expressed that need for a database to effectively address the needs of the labor sector.
She said that the database will also serve as the blueprint for further development of the Pampanga labor force in being able to respond to the needs of a competitive national labor sector.
The Peso also said that the database, once completed, will be launched to the public and made available to various businesses and corporations for their ready access. This accessibility program is a pet project of Pineda and is expected to be launched anytime soon.
Vergara said the mapping will also help the Peso in better facilitation of jobseekers who ask for them for help and matching these with the needed labor by various companies.
“This is a great opportunity to expand opportunities for our jobseekers and make the process of matching manpower with various industries more efficient,” Vergara said.
