Party holds biggest political rally in Angeles City
ANGELES CITY – The Agyu Tamu team of Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan gathered the biggest political rally in the history in this city during the opening salvo of their campaign for reelection, said an official of the Partido Abe Kapampangan (AbeKa).
AbeKa deputy secretary general William Aguilar said, “This is the largest political gathering in the history of the City of Angeles. People from all walks of life marched from various assembly points to show their support to the reelection bid of Mayor Pamintuan, his vice mayor, Vicky Vega, and the 10 councilors — Edu Pamintuan, Maricel Morales, Jericho Aguas, Alex Indiongco, Arvin Suller, Danica Lacson, Amos Rivera, Ruben Maniago, Romeo Taruc and Lito Ganzon, and Vice Gov. Yeng Guiao’s campaign as representative of the first district of Pampanga.”
Members of AbeKa, civic organizations, non-government organizations (NGOs) and peoples’ organizations as well as barangay leaders made up the bulk of the rallyists.
The rallyists marched from four points in downtown Angeles, converging at Miranda St, filling up the entire stretch from the corner of Plaridel St. to Rizal Extension and Jake Gonzales Blvd.
“The estimated mobilization was more than 15,000. Some leaders were even saying that the total number of participants exceeded 20,000 as many unorganized citizens of Angeles City also went to the rally,” Aguilar added.
The local police estimated the crowd at 15,000 during its peak.
Political observers said Pamintuan’s opening salvo was bigger than the opening rallies of the national parties of Team PNoy and United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) combined.
“This is a show of strength. This big rally is a clear indication of what will happen come election day — a landslide victory for Mayor EdPam and his entire Agyu Tamu team,” Aguilar said.
In his speech, Pamintuan said that his first three years in office marked significant changes in governance by way of implementing programs that benefitted the Angeleños.
“You all know that when I ran for mayor in 2010, I signed a Contract with the Angeleños, committing to an 8-point program that covers education, health, delivery of basis services, environment, restoration of the people’s trust on the local government, peace and order, improved barangay operations and services, and improvement of public markets. I am proud to report to you that by the end of 2012, we have already accomplished and delivered more than we promised,” Pamintuan said.
The incumbent mayor added that he will continue to focus on education and health services.
The Agyu Tamu team believes in continuing good practices in governance, as evidenced by the administration’s several recognitions received from various government, local agencies and even international organizations.
