Pampanga hospital congested with dengue patients

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Third district Board Member Monina Laus said Tuesday that the 250-bed unit of the Jose B. Lingad Regional Memorial Hospital (JBLRMH) could no longer accommodate the increasing number of dengue patients.
With this, Laus asked chiefs of the 10 district hospitals of the province to help address the rising cases of dengue to decongest the JBLRMH of patients afflicted with the ailment.
Laus, also Provincial Board committee on health chairman, led a seminar cum orientation of district hospital heads and their staff at the Benigno Aquino Hall at the Capitol Compound, together with fellow lady lawmakers Olga Frances David-Dizon, Trina Dizon and Tarcicio Halili.
An official of the regional hospital said they are now running at around 590 to 600 patients as of mid-month, but no refusals or non-admittance are being made.
In statistics provided by Laus to Sun.Star Pampanga, it was gleaned that as of July 29 this year, 896 cases have been recorded by the Department of health regional office.
Of the total, 184 are in the City of San Fernando; 117 in Mabalacat with one death; 106 in Guagua; and 57 in Apalit with one death.
In Angeles City, 285 cases and one death have been noted. Another death was also reported in Candaba recently.
“Our district hospitals should now help and should not be afraid to admit dengue cases. Transfers to JBLRMH should also be minimized to decongest the hospital. That is why we conducted this seminar and orientation for staff of our district hospitals so they will be aware of treatment and what to do. Treatment of dengue cases in our 10 district hospitals remain free as ordered by the Governor [Lilia Pineda],” said Laus.
Laus also advised district hospital officials to keep their units clean.
“The source of dengue as we found out is our dirty environment. Madumi. There is garbage everywhere including in our waterways where mosquitoes breed. That is why we are working on our garbage problems together with our health programs. With this and an intensive information campaign, we will be able to address the problem on dengue,” concluded Laus. (Jovi T. De Leon)
