Pampanga flood situation normal
May 10, 2011
AFTER two nights of heavy rains brought about by Tropical Storm Bebeng, Kapampangan officials said the situation in the province remains normal.
Officer-in-charge at the Pampanga Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) Engineer Lulu Alingcastre has not issued any warning or situational report regarding flooded villages in the province.
Alingcastre said their office has not received reports of any flooding since they started monitoring on Saturday night.
Department of Agriculture Regional Executive Director Andrew Villacorta, in a separate interview, said there were no reported damages or destroyed agricultural properties as of Monday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has raised storm signal number 1 in Central Luzon, including Pampanga, but was later lifted on Sunday.
According to Pagasa, Tropical Storm Bebeng is expected to exit Luzon Tuesday morning.
The storm slammed into Catanduanes province with winds of 85 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 100 kph. It triggered landslides and floods, disrupted transportation and knocked out power in some towns.
However, Pagasa said Monday that the tropical storm has weakened slightly to maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center, as it made landfall over Northern Casiguran.
The Pagasa said Bebeng will weaken further as it continues to traverse landmass and may become a low pressure area as it exits Luzon Tuesday.
As of 10 a.m. Monday, Bebeng was estimated at 55 kilometers north northwest of Casiguran, Aurora. The Pagasa raised storm signal number 2 in Aurora, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Mt. Province, Kalinga, and Cagayan.
Still on signal number 1 are Northern Quezon, Polillo Island, Nueva Ecija, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Babuyan, Calayan group of Islands, and Batanes. (Charlene Cayabyab)
