Palace congratulates Azkals despite World Cup qualifier loss

MANILA — Malacañang has urged the public to rally behind the country’s football team Azkals despite being eliminated at the hands of Kuwait Al-Azraq in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers on Thursday night.
“We congratulate them for the heart and the bravery that our Philippine team showed. They proved that Filipinos have potential in this sport,” Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte told reporters.
The Azkals lost to the Blues, 1-2, (5-1 on aggregate) before a capacity crowd at the refurbished Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
