Official assures gov’t agency: No squatters in Batasan

ARAYAT – An official of the Municipal Government here has assured officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional office that the isolated portion of Barangay Batasan here shall be free of squatters while construction of a cut-off channel is ongoing. DPWH regional director Antonio Molano, in a recent meeting with Provincial Government officials, expressed worry on the possibility of communities sprouting in the said area.Amador Pineda, Mayor Luis Espino’s executive secretary, said professional squatters could not easily penetrate the area as they are closely monitoring it.
Pineda maintained that habitation in the said area is still dangerous particularly during rainy season.
The cut off channel project is designed to divert the flow of water in the Pampanga River to its original course, to protect the residents in Barangay Guemasan here and other towns in the province.
DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson earlier approved a P25-million budget for the cut-off channel upon the request and initiative of Governor Lilia Pineda.
