More classrooms for 2 Pampanga towns

Monday, January 24, 2011
LUBAO — Two Filipino-Chinese organizations turned over last Friday six 12-classroom school buildings to elementary schools in the towns of Lubao and Floridablanca in Pampanga.

The school buildings were donated by the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) and the San Fernando Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (SFFCCII).
SFFCCCII president Eddie Chua told Sun.Star Pampanga that the donation was made possible through the group’s “Operation Barrio Schools”.

Accompanied by former President and now second district Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Mayors Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab (Lubao), Eddie Guerrero (Floridablanca), Chua said four of the school buildings at the San Matias, Calangain, San Pablo 2nd and San Pedro Palcarangan elementary schools (all in Lubao) were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Mario Ong Chan.

One school building in Sta. Cruz, Lubao, he said, was donated by Amado Que He Huat while another building at the Camachile Elementary School in Barangay Nabuclud, Floridablanca, was donated by Manila Y’s Men, led by its president, Jonathan Teng.

He said hundreds of school buildings have been donated by the FFCCCII and SFFCCCII to 19 towns and one city in the province.

Chinese businessmen and traders, according to Chua, have been very generous in shelling out a portion of their income to provide funds to improve the educational facilities of public elementary schools and high schools not only in Pampanga but in the entire country as well.

Meanwhile, Bonifacio Lui, vice chairman of FFCCCII’s Welfare Committee, said the partnership between the federation and Representative Arroyo and incumbent Governor Lilia Pineda has made possible the construction of the new school buildings in the two towns.

For her part, Mayor Pineda-Cayabyab said the people of Lubao–especially the teachers, parents and students of the beneficiary schools–are very grateful.

She said the LGU is also doing its share in improving the facilities of the schools, which she admitted is not enough to address the lack of school buildings.

Pineda-Cayabyab said the new classrooms donated by their Chinoy friends are a great help to students and teachers, and a great help as well to the government’s efforts to rehabilitate the old school buildings. “Mula sa mga mamamayan ng Lubao maraming salamat at sana ay huwag kayong magsasawang tumulong sa aming bayan (From the people of Lubao, thank you so much, and may you never tire of helping our town),” she said.

Floridablanca Mayor Eddie Guerrero, meanwhile, said hundreds of Aeta students studying at the Camachile Elementary School will greatly benefit from the new school buildings.

Guerrero also thanked the donors for providing books, school supplies and toys to the Aeta children, saying the partnership between the Chinoy traders, the Provincial Government, local government units, and Representative Arroyo is most beneficial to Floridablanca’s underprivileged tribal community.
