Morales’ staunch supporter survives ambush
MABALACAT CITY–A staunch political supporter of Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales survived an ambush by still unidentified gunmen.
The Mabalacat Police Office reported that two unidentified gunmen riding in tandem ambushed former Barangay San Joaquin chief David Davidson on Friday night along Barangay Dolores here.
Davidson survived the attack, which is tagged as the first ever politically-motivated violence recorded in the city.
Police investigations said Davidson was on his way home when the gunmen fired volleys of gun shots when he reached the Dolores Interchange.
The victim said the two gunmen had already been following him when he left his home for a meeting in Barangay Dolores.
“Noong pauwi na ako napansin ko nakasunod na naman itong dalawang naka-motor at noong nasa ilalim ako ng overpass ng SCTEX bigla akong pinaputakan ng dalawang beses. Dahil madulas ang kalsada ako’y natumba kaya hindi ako tinamaan,” Davidson said.
Davidson said he has no known enemies but suspected that politics could be the motive behind the attempt to kill him.
“Wala naman akong alam na dahilan kung hindi pulitika,” Davidson said.
Davidson served as barangay kagawad from 1999 to 2007 and then served as barangay captain from 2007 until 2010.
He ran again in 2010 against Rafael Pascual but lost. He filed an electoral protest and won at the Municipal Trial Court of Mabalacat.
Meanwhile, Morales condemned the assassination attempt against Davidson, the first political violence recorded in the city since he assumed office.
“Nakakalungkot at nakaka-alarma ang nangyaring pag-ambush kay Davidson. Sa tagal na natin sa pulitika ngayon lang nagkaroon ng political violence sa ating bayan,” Morales said.
Morales said that he ordered the Mabalacat police to investigate the incident and leave no stones unturned because “violence has no place in the peaceful city of Mabalacat.”
“Sa mga nakalipas na eleksyon noong panahon ni dating mayor Fred Halili, Dr. Catalino Domingo, Moc Candelaria, at Mr. Anthony Dee naging maingay ang eleksyon pero walang naging karahasan o political violence. Ngayon lang nangyari ito kaya nalulungkot tayo,” Morales said.
Morales will run against Vice Mayor Noel Castro, an independent candidate, and Noli Castro of Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) during the upcoming mayoral race.
