Melting facility seen to solve waste problem

APALIT — Officials here are negotiating with an undisclosed firm for the establishment of a plastic melting facility that could solve at least 20 percent of the garbage problem in this town.
The local government unit, according to Barangay Cansinala chief Inaki Saenz, is eyeing for the construction of the said facility, which they see as a permanent solution to the waste problem in relation to the full implementation of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
The village chief pointed out that with the help of the melting facility, they can make turn plastics into blocks that can be sold at a certain amount.
Meanwhile, he stressed that the volume of garbage produced in their barangay has reduced by 50 percent since a material recovery facility was established.
“So kung may natitirang 50 percent na basura, bahagi nito ay magagawa nating blocks. Mababawasan na ang gastos ng munisipyo sa pagkolekta pa lamang ng basura,” he said.
