Mayor selected as Army advisor

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Mayor Oscar Rodriguez was selected as one of the advisors of the Philippine Army Multi-Sector Advisory Board over the weekend at Fort Andres Bonifacio, Manila.
The announcement was made during the formal launching of the advisory board as the Army embarks in embracing the Performance Governance System (PGS), which was earlier adopted by the City of San Fernando.
The creation of the board is part of the 18-year Army Transformation Roadmap under the PGS where its main objective is to clear issues on corruption and human rights abuses among others.
The board shall serve in an advisory capacity and shall submit its findings and recommendations to the Commanding General.
Army officials said Rodriguez’s support to the board will be of great help, with his vast experiences, leadership and as a practitioner of the PGS.
He is also the President of League of Cities of the Philippines, chairman of the Region 3 Development Council, and Executive Vice President of the Union of Local Authorities in the Philippines.
Leaders from other sectors were also invited to be part of the advisory board to enhance private-public partnership and promote transparency in government.
“In order to meet our goal of serving our people better, we must involve private sectors in our governance. Their opinions will give us better judgment among things, and that is the key to our success in the city [San Fernando],” said Rodriguez.
Meanwhile, Secretary of National Defense Volataire Gazmin lauded the Philippine Army for enhancing its services.
“This system [PGS] is an innovative way of serving our people,” Gazmin said.
The Army advisory board also includes Former Finance Secretary Dr. Jesus Estanislao, Makati Business Club Chairman Ramon del Rosario Jr., Ayala Foundation President Victoria Garchitorena, The Mindanao Cross Columnist Samira Tomawis, lawyer Alex Lacson, and Western Samar Congressman Mel Sarmiento.
