Mayor invites housing group to invest in city

CLARK FREEPORT — City of San Fernando Mayor Oscar Rodriguez asked on Thursday the Organization of Socialized Housing Developers of the Philippines (OSHDP) to invest in socialized and low-cost housing projects in the city.
Rodriguez, during the national convention of the OSHDP and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) at Holiday Inn in this Freeport, themed “Isang Tahanan, Isang Bayan: Government and Industries Responding to Challenges for a more vibrant and sustainable Housing Sector,” said that providing decent places among Fernandinos is his advocacy.
In his remarks, Rodriguez said it is also a response to President Benigno Aquino III’s call for public-private partnership in the government.
He said in San Fernando, shelter has been provided to Fernandinos, particularly those displaced by national and local projects including informal settlers.
Currently, some 5,940 families that were affected by the North Rail Project and Sagip-Ilog projects were relocated in a 38-hectare resettlement site called Northville 14 in Barangay Calulut.
“We envision the city to become a habitat of human excellence, habitat which means a place, a cradle, a shelter—where citizens get out of their own bed every morning and find themselves in their own homes” said Rodriguez.
He underscored that the move would be more successful with the involvement of the private sector like OSHDP.
Jefferson Bongat, OSHDP president, expressed his support when he said: “Sa hirap ng buhay ngayon, hindi kakayanin mag-isa ng gobyerno ang problema sa pabahay, kaya kami mula sa pribadong sektor ay handang tumulong sa pagbibigay ng mura subalit dekalidad na tahanan(In this hard times, government alone cannot solve the housing problem that is why we the private sector are ready to help in providing cheap but quality housing).”
