Mayor: Employ fire safety every day
March 1, 2011
ANGELES CITY — Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan told his constituents to be alert and make every day fire prevention day as the country observes Fire Prevention Month starting Monday.
“While the fire bureau, with its minimal resources and equipment, is doing its best to prevent the occurrence of conflagrations, the public should do its share by ensuring that their homes are free from fire hazards and reporting violations on the Fire Code Law,” Pamintuan said.
The mayor urged the public to take precautionary measures to prevent fire incidents.
He cited a regular and general check-up of electrical wirings, sockets, and appliances yearly for fire safety, most especially those located inside the sleeping quarters of residential areas.
Pamintuan also said it is best to avoid using substandard electrical wires, extension cords, chargers, and similar items; instead, he suggested buying items with the “PS” mark.
Senior Inspector Jimmy Suba, city fire marshal, appealed to the public to be more safety-conscious to prevent fire occurrence in the city.
Suba said the responsibility of fire prevention belongs to the people.
“Everyone must comply with the fire safety rules and regulations as the men and women of Bureau of Fire Protection-Angeles are doing its best to improve services to the community,” Suba said.
BFP-Angeles has lined up various activities for the observance of Fire Prevention Month.
Topping the activities is a kick-off motorcade displaying streamers to echo the month’s celebration bearing the theme: “Kahandaan sa Sunog… Tungo sa Kaunlaran.” This will be participated in by BFP personnel, city and barangay officials and key sectors of the society.
A drawing contest on fire prevention is slated on March 4 at Marquee Mall to be participated in by students from the city’s public and private schools.
This will be followed by a blood-letting activity on March 9 at the BFP-Angeles Headquarters at the City Hall compound in Barangay Pulung Maragul.
Suba said fire hydrants will be installed in different areas in the city’s 33 barangays. This will be coordinated with the Angeles City Water District, he added
