Man assaults cop

MABALACAT — A police officer here was seriously wounded after a man assaulted him Monday morning.
Police Officer 2 Dennis Dela Cruz, town police warrant officer, is being treated at the Mabalacat District Hospital as of press time.
The cop was injured on the shoulder after he was hit by a big wooden stick by Daniel Bondoc, 45, of Madapdap Resettlement Center.
Dela Cruz was attacked after he served a warrant of arrest against Bondoc, who was charged for violation of Republic Act 9262 (Violence Against Women and Children) to his former girlfriend Pilar Castro, of San Isidro Resettlement Center, Magalang town.
Superintendent Rodney Raymond Louie J. Baloyo IV, town police chief, said Dela Cruz went into the Bondoc residence in Madapdap resettlement to arrest the suspect.
But instead of cooperating with the law enforcer, Bondoc allegedly resisted arrest and harmed the policeman.
Baloyo said additional cases of direct assault to a policeman and resisting arrest will be filed against Bondoc.
Aside from this, Baloyo said he is also contemplating on filing obstruction of justice against Bondoc’s wife who allegedly tried to hide the suspect.
According to Bondoc, Dela Cruz and his companions, who were clad in civilian clothes, destroyed the lock of his house doors and forcibly entered his residence.
“Mebigla ku pu nyang bigla lang lungub keng bale ku. (I was surprised when they suddenly entered my house). Akala ko papatayin nila ako kasi tinutukan nila ako ng baril (I thought they would kill me because they pointed their guns at me),” Bondoc said.
“Di ko naman alam na mga pulis sila kasi naka civilian [clothes] (I didn’t know that they are cops because they were wearing civilian clothes). Di ko rin alam na may warrant ako (I didn’t also know that I have warrant,” Bondoc said.
Baloyo commended his men for arresting Bondoc, who is now detained at the Mabalacat Police Station.
The court has set a bail of P120,000 for Bondoc, according to Baloyo. (Reynaldo G. Navales)
