Mabalacat folks favor cityhood, survey says

MABALACAT — Residents here are in favor of the conversion of the town into a component city, a survey conducted in at least eight villages here recently, revealed.
In a random survey conducted on some 900 respondents in barangays Mabiga, Poblacion, San Francisco, Lakandula, Mawaque Resettlement Center, Madapdap Resettlement Center, Camachiles Resettlement Center and the central business district of Dau, it indicated that 98 percent of the respondents favored the conversion of this first-class municipality into a city.
Pampanga Representative Carmelo Lazatin (first district) sponsored the Mabalacat cityhood bill in the House of Representatives.
On May 17, the Congressional Committee on Local Government Units approved on first reading House Bill 2509, “An Act Converting the Municipality of Mabalacat in the Province of Pampanga into a component city to be known as the Mabalacat City.”
Mabalacat residents have expressed their gratitude to Lazatin and Morales for the move to convert this highly urbanized town.
On Wednesday, the House members on second reading approved the Mabalacat cityhood.
Mabalacat Mayor Marino “Boking” Morales said the delivery of basic and social services, particularly on education, health care and solid waste management, will improve if the town becomes a city.
The survey also indicated the positive acceptability ratings of incumbent Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda with 96 percent, Rep. Carmelo Lazatin with 93 percent and Morales with 85%.
The survey was conducted by the Central Luzon Business Development Council (CLBDC), an independent survey commissioned to determine the acceptability ratings of the provincial governor, the representative of first district of Pampanga, the local chief executive of Mabalacat, the Municipal Council members and the move for cityhood of Mabalacat.
The survey was conducted last April 15 to 16 in eight barangays in Mabalacat.
