Lubao mayor: New municipal building to spur growth
LUBAO, Pampanga—Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab said on Monday she will prioritize the construction of a new municipal hall along the national highway outside the town proper to spur economic growth. Cayabyab-Pineda said the municipal hall will be along the Jose Abad Santos Ave. (Jasa) and will be her government’s “top agenda” on her second term.
“It is already on our agenda and plans in coordination with the town council. But we can’t give other details so not to pre-empt the project,” said Pineda-Cayabyab, who will run unopposed for the second straight time for the mayoralty post in the 2013 elections.
Pineda-Cayabyab said the new hall will bring in more businesses and economic activities benefitting the at least 150,843 residents (2010 population report) of the first-class municipality.
“And hopefully generate more local taxes,” said the mayor of the town known for its production of sampaguita, rice, sugar cane and fish.
The current municipal hall is in barangay San Nicolas 1, about two kilometers from Jasa and in the central portion of the town proper.
Pineda-Cayabyab, daughter of Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda, said her government had prioritized the improvement of businesses in one of the biggest towns in Pampanga in terms of land area. The town with 44 villages has a land area of 155.77 square kilometers.
Second District Board Member Salvador “Jun” Dimson of Lubao welcomed the mayor’s plan. He said the proposed municipal hall “is a brilliant one” improving the overall image of the town bounded by Orani, Bataan on the south, Sasmuan on the east, Guagua on the north and Floridablanca on the west.
He said Lubao is strategically located on the soutwestern portion of the province allowing the trade and investments to pour in.
