Lawmaker’s wife leads feeding program for kids

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Elizabeth Gonzales, wife of third district Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr., led Monday the launching of a feeding program in Barangay Calulut here.
Gonzales represented her husband during the start of the month-long feeding program dubbed “Go Kids: Northville 14 Supplemental Feeding Program.” The program caters to some 320 undernourished children.
Mrs. Gonzales said the feeding program is the jumpstart of another social service program of her husband.
“We have also lined up programs that would help make Northville 14 a model community in the City of San Fernando. This is all part of our effort to uplift the standard of living of the people here,” Gonzales said.
She said the beneficiaries are initially identified to be either malnourished or underweight. Many of the families here could not properly attend to the children’s proper nourishment due to poverty and lack of the much-needed livelihood to make ends meet.
Gonzales said the program will run for three days every week and the children’s weight and health improvement will be properly monitored for comparison.
She said the feeding program goes hand-in-hand with the infrastructure programs of her husband for Northville 14.
Representative Gonzales earlier announced that P15 million worth of projects for Northville 14 are set to be implemented within this year by the National Housing Authority (NHA). The projects include the construction of multi-storey buildings for the Northville Elementary School.
Northville 14 is a relocation site for residents affected by the ongoing Philippine National Railways project. The relocation has started in 2009.
At present, there are some 3,935 families in the site, while 99 families are awaiting relocation. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
