Lawmaker bats for intensive info drive vs dengue

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Board Member Monina Laus filed Wednesday a resolution calling for province-wide information campaign that would address the awareness and prevention of dengue at the grassroots level.
In her resolution, the third district lawmaker said proper measures like the provision of massive or intensive information campaign against dengue should be immediately launched in the entire province to mitigate its negative effects that ultimately lead to deaths.
“There is a need to institutionalize the campaign and to involve the private sector, the schools and other cause-oriented institutions in the campaign that should be held regularly each year,” Laus said.
Laus added the information drive will focus on preventive measures against dengue and that preparation against it should be done all throughout the year.
The information campaign also aims to hold a Dengue Summit with health agencies, health workers, school officials and other sectors in the community. The summit will discuss new trends in the resurgence of dengue and reiteration of approaches on how to combat the growing number of dengue cases in Pampanga.
Laus said she has also partnered with SM City Pampanga for the publication of information materials on dengue that will be distributed to different communities in the province.
The information materials will contain basic guides on community and household cleanliness and how to respond in cases of a dengue affliction in the family.
The campaign also aims to establish dengue brigades in communities and schools.
Laus said involving schoolchildren in eliminating containers that are breeding places of mosquitoes with proper garbage management in school campuses is an effective way of preventing dengue.
Copies of the resolution will be sent to different agencies and institutions in Pampanga, while the program implementation is expected to be carried out this month.
