Laus bats for comprehensive health code for Pampanga

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Third district Board Member Monina Laus on Sunday said efforts are now being undertaken for the creation of a comprehensive health code that will serve as basis in the implementation of health services in Pampanga.
Laus, who chairs the Provincial Board’s committee on health, said she took the cue from Vice Governor Joseller Guiao who urged the creation of a health code that will include all health ordinances created by the province, as well as provide a benchmark for the management of public hospitals in Pampanga.
“We have asked some people from the Department of Health and some key resource persons to help us in forming the health code,” Laus said, adding that a committee hearing and a technical working group have been scheduled to meet this week to start on the code.
Vice Governor Guiao said the legislation would be a lasting contribution in improving health standards in the province.
Guiao was particularly concerned about the management of district hospitals and how the province could set up rules on professionalism and a system to address grievances and complaints by ordinary people.
“If we have a health code and a legislated system of management we could easily address concerns by our people regarding hospital services,” Guiao said, stressing that the province aims to instill a higher level of professionalism among hospital employees.
Laus, for her part, said she will meet with other stakeholders so as to address other concerns and come up with solutions through legislation.
“This health code has long been set in the sidelines but under the term of Governor Pineda we will see it through so as to compliment the current programs being implemented by the governor,” Laus said.
First district Board Member Tarcicio Halili pledged to support the move, adding he also has some concerns on the reiteration of health ordinances created by the province in the past years.
