Labor department forges 1st guidance counselor network

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) in Central Luzon recently convened guidance counselors across the region and forged them to be the first Regional Career Guidance Network (CGN).
Dole Regional Director Leopoldo De Jesus reported to Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz that the regional labor agency initially held a Seminar for 40 Career Guidance Counselors from both private and public schools from Central Luzon on topics on Labor Market Information (LMI), Phil-Jobnet, and Jobsfit.
We are encouraging our partners from the academe to work hand in hand with the Dole in providing the youth with adequate information in choosing their career paths in order to land towards sustainable jobs through holding effective Career Guidance Seminars and Coaching, we also encourage them to venture in entrepreneurship as means to alternative to employment” De Jesus said.
Meanwhile, Ferdinand Capati of Dole Tarlac provided an orientation on the Dole Jobsfit 2020 Vision.
He highlighted key employment generators in the region that have potential, absorbing the most number of the Philippine workforce such as agribusiness, cyber services, tourism, health and wellness, mining, and construction to name a few.
He also cited the “top hot jobs” in the country, namely: call center agents, accounting clerks, skilled workers, and masonry, among others.
Josephine Castro of the Technical Support and Services Division on Employment and Welfare on the other hand, provided an orientation on Labor Market Information (LMI), where she emphasized the importance of timely labor market information as a tool for planning in policy makers, government, private sector, and the academe.
The LMI covers basic statistical information (quantitative information) and non-statistical (qualitative information). Also, the LMI should be processed properly, timely updated, and validated, Castro said.
The guidance counselors welcomed the Dole’s innovations on career guidance coaching and have actively shared some of their best practices during the open forum proper.
