Labor department celebrates 9th World Day Against Child Labor

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) Friday celebrated the 9th World Day Against Child Labor celebration here in Central Luzon with various activities for children.
This year’s celebration, themed “Mapanganib na Paggawa, Bawal sa Bata,” was held at SM City Baliwag where the labor department collaborated with the Provincial Government of Bulacan through its Public Employment Service Office, the Philippine Committee on Child Labor, the Department of Education, the Provincial Social and Welfare Development Office, SM and San Miguel Corporation for the distribution of educational packages to some 300 children who were either former laborers or who are at risk to child labor.

Labor communications officer Jerry Borja, Dole director Leopoldo De Jesus called for a united and collaborative partnership with all concerned government agencies, local government units, barangays, civil societies, parents and stakeholders to put a stop to child labor once and for all.
In Pampanga, the Dole-Pampanga Field Office and the Municipal Government of Mexico conducted an orientation on illegal recruitment, child labor and the creation of the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children in the town’s villages.
The Municipal Government also affirmed its support in the prevention of child abuse, by not issuing business permits to establishments engaged in prostitution.
In Bataan, the Dole Bataan Field Office partnered with the Sulong KaBataan and the Municipality of Samal to boost Dole’s Child Labor Program and values formation for youth leaders.
Other Dole provincial field offices in Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and Zambales also held similar activities in line with the celebration.
Based on statistics from the International Labor Organization, some 115 million children all over the world are involved in hazardous work and needs to be addressed.
