Kapampangan hailed UP magna cum laude

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — A Kapampangan was hailed as magna cum laude among the graduates of Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering at the University of the Philippines-Diliman recently.
Joseph Almar Aquino Tupe, an Iskolar ng Dong beneficiary, is a long-time scholar of the program instituted by third district Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr. almost four years ago.
Tupe said Gonzales has contributed to his current achievement, adding he greatly appreciates the lawmaker’s scholarship assistance.
Tupe said his academic life was not easy as he had to prove his worth as a student through constant perseverance and excellence in his studies.
“I am fortunate to have the full support of my family all throughout my studies,” he said.
Tupe is a graduate of the Philippine Science High School Main Campus and is expected to take the board exam anytime soon.
Gonzales told Sun.Star Pampanga that Tupe has already been offered employment by a global consumer manufacturing firm.
Gonzales said Tupe is a perfect example that Kapampangan students can in fact excel in their studies provided that they are given the full support of family and the government.
“The Iskolar ng Dong program hails this kind of achievement from its graduates and we are happy that we have become a part of the mission to forge the next generation of accomplished youths in the country,” Gonzales said.
Gonzales said his scholarship program will be taking in new sets of scholars to fill in the slots vacated by those who graduated this year.
He said his scholarship program does not discriminate between students who excel in their studies and those who do not.
“This is our basic criteria: we would like to help indigents with the determination to finish their studies,” Gonzales said.
