Journalist: No backing out on libel case
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Kapampangan journalists vowed to stand against the P20-million libel case filed by businessman Renato Romero.
Ceasar Lacson, editor and columnist of Punto! Central Luzon, said they will not turn their backs on the libel case and will stand firmly against it.

Aside from Lacson, editor Joey Aguilar, general manager Gener Edona, and marketing manager Joanna Nina Cordero were also included in the libel case.
“I respect his (Romero) right to file a libel case so I am going to stand for my right also of defending myself,” Lacson said.
Romero filed the complaint against Lacson after the alleged publication of “injurious and defamatory” articles against him last December 15 to 18, 2010 on their newspaper.
The complaint stemmed from a letter to the editor written by Lacson entitled “Romero ululating” and a critical opinion article with the same title, both published in the paper.
Earlier, the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) in Pampanga has launched a fund-raising campaign to address the libel case.
During the commemoration of the Ampatuan massacre on Sunday, NUJP chairman Ashley Manabat told fellow journalists to remain vigilant against the enemies of press freedom.
Manabat also called on Kapampangan journalists to continue the fight against impunity and expose anomalies in government to protect the rights of the people.
